Holderness Advertiser 19th July
THERE is an attractive looking ‘double-header’ in store at Low Farm for Easington United supporters this weekend.
On Friday the Eastenders entertain Hull City Juniors (7.00pm) in what has become an enjoyable annual pre-season fixture.
The following afternoon, a hastily arranged fixture sees HPL Division 1 side St Andrews Police Club visit Low Farm for a two o’clock kick-off.
The two fixtures should allow Eastenders boss Dave Mackay-Dundas to cast his eye over virtually all of those players hoping to stake a claim for places ahead of the new campaign, which begins on August 19.
Unfortunately, an exception to this is Neil Rutter. The Easington skipper sustained serious knee ligament damage during last week’s friendly against North Ferriby United and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The loss of his captain capped a disappointing night for the manager who saw his side taken apart after the break in a 6-1 defeat.
The Eastenders took an early lead through Ian Barrow and, despite Danny Moore and Joe Lightowler turning things round before the break, for an hour actually looked like they might get something from the game.
But poor lapses in concentration and the quality of Gary Bradshaw up front eventually proved decisive. The Ferriby striker scored twice with Paul Foot and Mike Price also netting for the visitors.
There was better news on Saturday when the next batch of Easington hopefuls overcame West Yorkshire League side Pontefract Sports Reserves 3-0, courtesy of two goals from Luke Smith and one from skipper Darren Dawson.

•Finally, best wishes from everybody at the Club go to Kevin and Nicky (“Mr & Mrs Applehead”) on their marriage this Saturday.
