Holderness Advertiser 12th July
NORTH Ferriby United’s visit to Low Farm last night provided Easington United with their first test ahead of the new Humber Premier League season, which begins on Saturday, 19th August.
The Eastenders’ summer schedule continues with the visit of Hull City Juniors on Friday week (21st) and manager Dave Mackay-Dundas should have virtually a full squad available.
His only definite absentees are Mark Chester and Jimmy Neilson, both sidelined following recent knee operations, and goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard who gets married this weekend.
On the plus side, four new faces have been down training with the squad and all are likely to figure over the next few weeks.
With over twenty players currently vying for places, those unlucky enough not to face North Ferriby are set to have a run out this Saturday (15th) when West Yorkshire League Premier Alliance Division side Pontefract Sports & Social Reserves visit Low Farm (kick-off 3.00pm).
Reserve team boss John Clarke takes charge of the Eastenders and will be looking for pointers ahead of a campaign in the ER County League Premier Division, following promotion at the end of last term.
Away from the action and the Club Committee is indebted to a band of volunteers who have worked magnificently in recent weeks to ensure the ground is looking ship-shape again following the problems that have dogged it since the end of last season.

Plenty to prove for Easington hopefuls
FOLLOWING North Ferriby United’s scheduled visit earlier this week, Easington United continue their preparations for the new season when they meet Pontefract Sports & Social Reserves at Low Farm this Saturday (3.00pm).
The Eastenders line-up under the stewardship of first team assistant-boss Dave Walmsley and Reserves management duo John Clarke & Andrew McNaught, with the squad likely to include most of those who missed out on a run against Ferriby in midweek.
Pontefract, from the West Yorkshire League Premier Alliance Division, arrive at The Farm as a totally unknown package but even at this early stage there are plenty of incentives for the locals to put on a big performance.
Not only might an impressive display lead to inclusion in the squad to meet Hull City Juniors at Low Farm next Friday (21st) but Clarke also knows his players need to raise their levels this term, following promotion to the County League’s Premier Division.
Away from the action and thanks to support from BP Exploration, a series of special publications are being produced to accompany the Club’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, for which the pre-season schedule forms an attractive looking kick-off.
The first such item is the souvenir match programme, which covers all six games taking place at Low Farm between now and the HPL opener on 19th August. It is priced £2.00.
All six fixtures are being kindly sponsored by Bonus Electrical – “From the KC Stadium to Low Farm supporting local football at all levels”.
Meanwhile, the Club has had an encouraging initial response to the “3 Lions FC” Football Fun Week being staged at Low Farm in conjunction with the East Riding County FA.
The three-day course begins on Monday, 31st August and is available to boys and girls aged 6-14. Further details can be obtained from the ERCFA office on 01482-221158.
Leading on from last week’s thanks, the Club (in conjunction with the Easington Recreation & Sports Association) would also like to publicly thank everybody who has worked tirelessly over the previous few weeks to get Low Farm looking ship-shape ahead of the new season.
Special thanks must go to the Biglin clan, in particular “Threv” who spent much of last Saturday scything down the perimeter overgrowth as if each thistle was a speedy right winger…and he was twenty years younger!
Finally, apologies for not publishing this earlier but the winners of the May and June 100 Club Draws are as follows: (May): £25 – 9, Malcolm McNaught; £15 – 46, Kevin Hewitt; £10 – 83, Daniel Medforth; £5 – 132, Jon Silversides; (June) £25 – 17, Stella Dinsdale; £15 – 130, Glenn Ratcliffe; £10 – 81, Peter Kirk; £5 – 68, Luke Milnes.
The July Draw will take place at the next Committee Meeting on 25th, with the Annual General Meeting to follow shortly after on a date still TBC.
